Highlights from Vitafood Asia 2019.
Vitafoods Asia 2019 took place from the 25th to 26th September at the Marina Bay Sands Exhibition and Convention Centre in Singapore. The event attracted 7,060 industry experts from 78 countries marking it as one of the largest nutraceutical events in Asia.
This year the organizers focused on three main trends; personalized nutrition, digestive health, and sustainable packaging. The event also included a conference programme that covered five key industry themes that will shape the Asia Pacific region.
One of the themes featured “The science behind your gut” where one of the speaker’s Dr Lin Jing a researcher from the Food Science and Technology Programme, National University of Singapore shared on the use of okara – a by-product of soymilk production – for creating fortified foods.
Speaking at the conference on the theme of “Mental wellbeing” was Dr Heng Kiang Soon a lecturer of the School of Applied Science – Republic Polytechnic, Singapore. He discussed the benefits of the use of solubilised okara in the formulation of DHA-rich soy cream cheese that would provide as a potential functional food for supporting brain health.
Held in conjunction with Vitafoods Asia was the NutraIngredients Awards that showcased a total of 11 different categories and 36 finalists from a range of nutraceutical companies.
Introduced to this year’s Vitafoods Asia was the Market Entry Hub catered for companies who are looking to launch products in the Asian region. The speakers gave insight to regulations and opportunities in various Asian markets.
Participants also had the opportunity to enjoy the latest products from manufacturers and were able to vote for their favourites. Teams behind the winning products walked away with some attractive prizes. Another highlight that sparked lots of interest was the New Products Zone. The latest product innovations and market launches were displayed for visitors to discover and learn more.

The 10th Edition of Vitafoods Asia will return to the Marina Bay Sands Exhibition and Convention Centre in Singapore from 23rd to 24th September 2020. [APBN]
