Providing a Global Roadmap for Healthy Longevity

Singapore played host to more than 200 delegates at the two-day Health Care System & Public Health organized by the National Academy of Medicine (NAM), USA.

Held from 3 to 4 February 2020, the two-day workshop for the Global Roadmap for Healthy Longevity Initiative was a partnerships with the Ministry of Health, Singapore office for Healthcare Transformation (MOHT), the National University Health System (NUHS), the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the National Research Foundation Singapore (NRF).

This initiative was spearheaded by NAM as an international, independent and multidisciplinary initiative to develop a Global Roadmap for Healthy Longevity to identify – through evidence-based recommendations – the priorities and directions for improving health, productivity and quality of life worldwide.

Amongst the delegates who participated were leading global thought leaders, as well as decision makers from academia, healthcare organizations, industry players, government, media and civic societies that actively play a part in formulating ways for global ageing and healthy longevity.

Convening in Singapore the discussions will put forth actionable recommendations to stimulate innovation, and guide policymakers and decision-makers in both public and private sectors. The presentations and discussions at the workshops are expected to be published in late 2020.

An International Commission was assembled by NAM to assess the challenges presented by global ageing how they cam be translated into opportunities for extending healthy ageing and quality of life.

Evidence from three main domains were assessed: Social, Behavioural, and Environmental Enablers, Health Care Systems and Public Health, and Science and Technology.

Discussions at the workshop also covered potential solutions to enhance the design of health and long-term care systems, including clinical services, health promotion, disease prevention services, and social care to foster the capacity and ability of ageing societies around the world.

The Healthy Longevity Catalyst Awards were also launched in Singapore in January 2020. In collaboration with NAM, these awards are targeted at local innovator and researchers from all disciplines to activate transformative ideas and innovation to promote health ageing. It is supported by NRF and MOH, Singapore who will be sponsoring 45 Catalyst Awards across three years from 2020 to 2022. [APBN]
