First China-Belgium Science and Technology Exchange Symposium Held in Brussels

The First China-Belgium Science and Technology Exchange Symposium is held in Brussels, Belgium, June 29, 2019. The symposium was held on Saturday in Brussels to promote scientific, technological and cultural exchange and cooperation between the two countries, with the participation of more than 100 experts. More than 100 scientific and technological experts from China and Belgium attended the opening event to discuss on a broad range of topics about medical and health, information technology, high-end manufacturing and modern agriculture.

“Belgium is a country of trade and science and technology, and an advanced economy known for its openness and pragmatism,” said Cao Zhongming, Chinese ambassador to Belgium, in his opening speech.

As the largest developing country with a population of nearly 1.4 billion, China has the research and development capabilities and application market to combine with Belgium’s advanced technology and innovation ideas to help flourish new ideas and technologies.

“Although Belgium is a relatively small country, it is known as the ‘small giant of science and technology’ and has 11 Nobel winners among 11 million people. China’s national policy of ‘innovation and public entrepreneurship’ is making China move towards the road of technological innovation and power,” said Xu Zhi’an, Chairman of the Association of Chinese Professionals in Belgium (ACPB), co-organizer of the event.

As the first high-tech park invested by China in Europe, China Belgium Technology Center (CBTC) is positioned to promote technological innovation and cooperation between China and Belgium, China and Europe.

In order to improve the eco-system for innovation and entrepreneurship, the CBTC has initiated a project named the Sino-EU Youth Innovation Garden to support young people, said Zhang Minrong, CEO of CBTC and co-organizer of the event.

“To support our youth scientist to achieve their commercialization, we are also preparing our Sino-EU Innovation Collage, to straighten the practical capability of the talent,” she added.

The “China-Belgium Science and Technology Cooperation Achievement Photo Exhibition” was held at the same time, showcasing the extraordinary achievements of the bilateral cooperation and highlighting the real benefits that science and technology cooperation brings to the two countries and the people. [APBN]
